I’m a mason by trade. A mason down here does everything: plastering, bricklaying, concrete floors. I used to have motorbikes: a Vespa to start with, then a Lambretta, then a Triumph Tiger Cub. I was scrum half for Penryn Rugby team, I’m the fourth generation in my family to play for them, and now my grandson is the sixth. My father was the youngest person ever to play for Penryn. We used to get changed in the rooms out the back of the ‘Fifteen Balls’ [former pub on West Street], then a bus up to the ground.
I thought I’d draw these flowers as this is how I was taught to draw flowers in school. [Referring to Keith’s plate] Keith and I travelled all over Cornwall on the bike in the 50s, just setting off for the day not knowing where we’d end up. There’s six generations in his family play rugby for Penryn. Keith and I are the first husband and wife to be life members of the rugby club.
