An exhibition by six women artists drawing inspiration from the life of rivers.

Tremenheere Sculpture Garden, 9 – 23 March 2024

TerraMater are a group of women artists based in Cornwall – painters, printmakers, jewellers, ceramic and textile artists. This show at Tremenheere Sculpture Garden in March 2024 exhibited new work by TerraMater members, Karen McEndoo, Sarah Drew, Jill Eisele, Linda Gibson Styles, Katie Bunnell and guest artist Sarah Davies. The exhibition brought together paintings, prints, jewellery and ceramics drawing inspiration from the word alluvial as a common thread or starting point. New pieces explore the life of a river: the power of the water, what it carries, where it cuts through, what lives in and around it and and the land it erodes and forms.

For Alluvial, Katie made new prints and small scale ceramics. The prints use hand drawing and digital methods to deconstruct a traditional chinoiserie scene. The branch of a tree with a bird, leaves and flowers has been disrupted, re-aligned and carefully recoloured as if subjected to an unseen force of nature.  Working directly and intuitively with clay, her new ceramic pieces lie in the space between 2 and 3 dimensions and play with the fixed and yet fluid nature of clay and glaze.
